Support for experts
Supporting people with a learning disability into mainstream or supported employment
Standard job application processes can be difficult and intimidating for people with a learning disability.
We can help guide and advise job seekers on the best way to use an organisation’s recruitment policies and provide imaginative alternatives to improve their chances of landing their dream role.
Shaun’s a video star
Shaun Webster MBE, an IC Works expert by experience, had an innovative idea to apply for jobs using a video CV, as his dyslexia made it difficult for him to complete standard application forms.
He pre-recorded a video about himself, his life and work experiences, and different skills which helped him to get an interview and land a job at St Mary’s Hospital in Leeds.
Shaun now has three paid jobs for different organisations and wants to support other people with a learning disability to apply for jobs in a way that works for them.
“I use my life experience to support people with learning disabilities, give them voices and get them to make their own decisions and choices”
